May was a big month for Bitar Machine Design. Especially for our founder and CEO, Justin Bitar.
In just a few weeks, Justin was invited to take part in three local events that brought together students, engineers, and innovators from across the Charlotte area.
Each event reflected something core to who we are: a commitment to hands-on learning, creative problem solving, and building community within the world of engineering.
Judging the UNCC Senior Design Expo
Justin was honored to serve as a judge at the UNC Charlotte Senior Design Expo, where senior engineering students presented their capstone projects. These projects are the culmination of each student’s academic career—real-world solutions built with months of planning, testing, and iteration.
As a judge, Justin reviewed student work, asked technical questions, and offered feedback from the perspective of someone who’s built products, teams, and a company from the ground up.
“It was inspiring to see how much effort these students put into their work. Their creativity and technical thinking are exactly what the industry needs more of.” - Justin Bitar, Bitar Machine Design CEO

Judging the UNCC Combat Robotics Battle Bot Competition
Shortly after the expo, Justin returned to campus—this time for something a bit louder. The UNCC Combat Robotics Club hosted their annual Battle Bot competition, where student teams built and battled custom robots in an arena setting.
Justin joined other invited judges to score the designs based on creativity, construction, and performance. The event was high-energy, student-led, and packed with innovation. Everything you’d want from a future generation of builders.

Helping Launch the First Charlotte Hardware Meetup
To round out the month, Justin helped organize the first-ever Charlotte Hardware Meetup—a new event created to bring together local hardware engineers, product designers, and founders.
The kickoff event featured lightning talks, demos, and casual networking focused on hardware projects being built right here in Charlotte. As one of the organizers, Justin helped shape the vision for the meetup and bring together a community that’s long been ready for connection.

May was a perfect example of what Bitar Machine Design stands for: not just engineering excellence, but active support for the people and ideas shaping the future of the field. Whether it’s students showcasing projects, robots battling in the ring, or local innovators meeting for the first time, we’re proud to be part of a community that not only builds things but also builds each other up. For us, the future of hardware is local, collaborative, and full of potential. And we’re excited to keep playing a part in it.
